Critical analysis is a crucial component of the literature review. When critically analyzing literature, you must assess what is significant to your research and understand that it requires careful thought (Saunders et al., 2015). When writing a critical review, it is paramount that the author shows how the findings they have developed relate to prior research on the topic.
My study will be focused on strategies that small business owners use to maintain sustainability beyond the first five years of beginning operations. According to the Small Business Association (2018), only 78.5% of small businesses survive their first year, and by the end of their fifth year, roughly 50% have faltered. The general business problem of interest is that many small business owners do not sufficiently prepare for sustainability.
The business research study that I located for this exercise provided the first analysis of management turnover and ownership change as determinants of post-bankruptcy failure of small businesses. The purpose of the study was to examine the issue of little being known about the determinants of small business failure after attempted bankruptcy reorganization. The framework of the study is based on adaptation benefits and disruption costs. The study’s findings cast new light on the ongoing scholarly debate on whether bankruptcy of a firm’s incumbent management should be dismissed or left in control. The study is viable and includes substantive data from court records on bankruptcy reorganizations maintained by the Agency of the Republic of Slovenia for Public Legal Records and Related Services (AJPES). The study is relevant because it analyzes aspects of small business failure that have been neglected. Critical analysis of the study helped inform me of additional factors that can significantly impact the success of small businesses, such as whether the firm has ever been bankrupt.

Study’s Key Components
The purpose of my study is to investigate leaders' lack of strategies to address toxic workplace behavior's impact on retention and health. The research problem is that leaders currently lack strategies to improve unhealthy workplace behaviors that impact employee retention and health. The lack of strategy to improve toxic workplace behaviors causes employee retention to decrease and negatively impacts employee's health or change the toxic behaviours.. Without working to implement strategies to address unhealthy workplace behaviors effectively, the leadership will fail to improve the retention and health of employees. The current research findings indicate that organizational leaders fail to consider their managerial responsibility in addressing unhealthy workplace behaviours and practical planning approaches that affect strategy implementation. Failure to use the appropriate procedures results in the unsuccessful implementation of strategies (Köseo?lu et al., 2009).
Study Viability within Literature Review
According to Saunders, Lewis, and Thornhill (2015), a study is considered viable if substantive data, current knowledge, and relevant literature are available. In the case of my study, the focus is on investigating the causes that attribute to leader’s failure to implement strategies to address toxic workplace behaviors that impact retention and which is viable. The viability of the existing research is adequate to the current knowledge of the study. For example, studies have determined various probable factors causing included leader’s failure at implementing strategies addressing toxic workplace behavior on retention and health that offer valuable data. Other researchers revealed that leaders' failures were associated with poor planning or failing to take leadership responsibility.
Furthermore, the existing literature provides substantive data about the study's outcomes on its impact on employee retention and health. For instance, research from experts discovered several reasons leaders fail to address toxic workplace behaviors are based on the toxic organizational culture. At the same time, other researchers provided insight on leaders who were incapable of determining or securing the most effective strategies for improving unhealthy workplace behavior's that impact employee retention and health.
The existing data and literature also offer another cause of leadership failure directly related to selecting an ineffective strategic implementation process. Moreover, the current literature is relevant to the research subject and provides an opportunity for further research.
View of Problem and Research Philosophy
Critical analysis of the existing literature on my subject of study will help understand the various perspectives of other researchers regarding possible factors that contribute to the failure of leaders to implement strategies to improve toxic workplace behaviors that impact retention and health. (Walden University Writing Center, 2015a). I further posit that understanding positivist research philosophy will increase my ability to pursue my study successfully. Understanding the significance of collecting reliable data within the context of quantitative methodology will be instrumental in supporting, validating long with using reliable data that is critical to the study’s outcomes.
