In the video, Ivan Poupyrev presents a mind boggling idea that has the potential to create a global digital revolution. Based on the video, Ivan wants to further maximize the use of computers beyond traditional gadgets such as mobile phones and large-sized computers that are operated by keyboards and mouse. Therefore, he proposes that daily use items such as clothes and doorknobs should be “digitalized” in a way that they offer ease and comfort to its users as all people cannot benefit from conventional gadgets all the time. It really stood out to me how his invented device can be linked with our clothes, shoes, and bags. He himself wore a jacket that he had made in collaboration with Levi’s that not only helped him control his mobile phone but also made him deliver the presentation on the screen as he used his jacket to navigate through the content. His invention, which is a small sized device, Jacquard has the potential to digitalize the everyday wear items and then use the information to help users control things as well as record data in cloud. He suggests that the tech companies do not owe the users to bring about a digital revolution in the world with interactive gadgets. Instead, he emphasizes that all businesses, let it be garments, shoes or other daily wear items should have proper plans to infuse technology into their products. For instance, he quoted an example of the shoes with Jacquard that would sync data related to the footsteps taken as well as the pressure exerted on the knee into the cloud software which will help the user track their progress without relying on any gadgets or software.

Based on what is presented in the video, I think that it is a great idea and indeed we need to come up with further advancements in technology and the use of our day-to-day items for advanced purposes. A collaborative approach is required to make the modern world more advanced in terms of technology and its interaction with our day to day lives. There is an immense need to ensure that not only a specific group of professionals or social class within the society enjoys the perks of interactive technology. It is inevitable to ensure that all kinds of businesses equally contribute to the game changing technology in the future. Our technological success in the future depends on the collaborative effort put in by different businesses as well as the level of interaction that the technology has to offer between the users and the interface. Having watched the video, I think we are in dire need of projects like Jacquard to live the tech-dream.

Hello,

I chose the same topic and I share the same ideas as you for the topic. I believe that this idea is not merely a game-changer but will set a whole new standard for technological advancement and user interaction with the technology. Based on the video and as you said, it is all about integrating technology in our daily lives. Just like you, whenever I watch science fiction movies, I also dream of a world that Ivan’s Jacquard could turn into a living reality. Despite being fascinated by his idea, I really want the interface engineers to understand the philosophy behind his design too which is integration of different technological features in all parts of our lives outside computers and mobile phones.

Thank you for sharing your ideas as I really enjoyed reading them!

Hi,

I am beyond impressed by how you correlated the video to your own life and the last two quotes were definitely an excellent addition to your point of view and the content of the video. People like Linus are the ones that dream big and come up with mad inventions that no one knew could exist one day. While Linux serve as a great operating system, the motivation behind creating Linux is a marvel itself that can serve as an example to positively motivate people in the field of computer sciences and interface engineering today. It is also evident in this case that “thinking outside the box” cannot only reap benefits to the one thinking but also others who are scared to pursue their goals and come up with innovative ideas. For all great inventions such as Linux as you mentioned in detail, along with Facebook, Amazon and Google were all the products of bold, intelligent minds that saw no limits to their dreams. Thank you for sharing such a detailed and thoughtful analysis of the video with us.

I chose the video, “Everything around you can become a computer” as it is no less than my childhood dream becoming a reality. As I watched the video, I realized how the science fiction movies and cartoons depicted the basics of these ideas that become so deep rooted in our minds that we expect them to happen eventually but hardly anyone came forward with a practical approach to it. This video made me feel embarked on the journey of the biggest tech revolution we all have waited for since years.
