Crimes and Victims

Crime data collection and analysis are essential in mapping out crime in a given city or state. I would use provided data from the law enforcement, for example, the FBI report on aggravated assault data (Federal Bureau of Investigation, 2019), to determine the types of crimes committed under this category, the age range and sexual orientation of victim and the localities where most cases are reported to have occurred. It will be easy to use demographics in such a situation since the FBI receives the data from law enforcement agencies separately; therefore, analyzing the data district-wise becomes easy. The use of demographics can help me identify crime patterns and trends by analyzing the geographical and temporal data supplied by the FBI. Demographics will aid in resource allocation to help victims and location profiling of offenders and dangerous locations.

I noticed that California has the highest number of victims of aggravated assault crimes in the entire country, with a 267.1% rate per 100,000 people in 2019, and according to data from the previous years, this trend seems too recurrent (Federal Bureau of Investigation, 2019). The information obtained can be used to map out the hot spot areas of assault cases and help the state government allocate resources to such areas, for example, increasing the number of law enforcement officers and the number of patrol cars to increase coverage of affected areas.
