SOC 223 Sociology of the Life Course Progress Report: Life Stories Project (Week 7)
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this assignment is to offer you an opportunity to consider, keep track of, and make any necessary revisions to your plan for your Life Stories Project, the capstone assignment for this course. The Life Stories Project is best thought of as an ongoing learning project culminating in the final report in which you will reflect upon your take-aways from engaging in the project and more generally in this course. As such, it will be beneficial for you to take some time in week 7 to assess how the project is going for you and what you need to focus on as you move toward writing your Life Stories Project final paper, due in week 11.
APPROACH
For your Progress Report, begin by reviewing your Planning Report, as well as the Life Stories Project guidelines, as needed. Then, please reflect on and respond to the following questions:
- How is your project going?
- What is going well as you work on your project?
- Have you run into any challenges as you work on your project?
- Do you have any new questions about the assignment that I can clarify?
- Have you made any revisions to your project plan in terms of:
- Whose life story(ies) to feature?
- The 5 life course themes you are focusing on?
- How's your outside research going? Have you found a minimum of 2 outside research-based sources to support your project?
- What sources have you found? How are they supportive of your project?
- If you are having difficultly finding sources, let me know what you are looking for and I'll see if I can point you in the right direction.
- Any preliminary take-aways from what you are learning as you conduct your project?
- Moving forward toward the capstone Life Stories Project paper due week 11, what kinds of support will you find helpful?
- Anything else that comes to mind that you'd like to me know?
FORMAT
- Same as for the Planning Report! Structure your report using the questions asked above.
- Please use a standard 12-point font, with double-spacing and one-inch margins.
- Include the name of this course, the title of your paper, and your name at the top of the first page. You don't need to have a separate title page.
- Include page numbers throughout.
- Save your paper as a Word document or PDF and submit to the Assignment drop-box.
- The total page length for your report will likely be between 2-3 double-spaced pages.
ASSESSMENT
- This assignment is worth an easy-to-earn 100 points total (and is 15% of your final course grade)!
- To earn full points, respond thoughtfully to all questions, no matter how "drafty" and provisional your project progress is.
- While this assignment is an informal progress report, I encourage you to make the effort to review, revise, and polish your report before you submit it.
- I will respond to your progress report by leaving you supportive and constructive feedback in the Assignment drop-box. Please be sure to check back to review the feedback you've received. ;-) Also, you'll want to refer back to this report and the feedback you've received on your Planning Report when you are preparing you Life Stories Project final paper.
