Understanding the evolution is critical to understanding how biology works. We are using model organisms to study mutations, diseases and the whole variety of problems and then we can apply this knowledge to humans cause we have a knowledge of similarities between the species due to evolutionary development. The principles of natural selection are also applied widely in the research for example when looking at the effect of the mutation in the organism and the effect of that mutation. Even if done in bacteria, the same principle is applied but just on a smaller scale. Darwin's theory also easily shows how the research is performed and the application of the scientific method which is very important to understand for any science field.
People have very similar genome; however, our environment influence on how our genome is expressed. We can see some adaptations that were more favorable for a particular environment became more abandoned in the population.
I don't think it is reasonable to stratify people based on intelligence or any other specific qualities. It is a forced selection that is not related to evolution.
It is hard for me to help with the last question because it looks like you need a personal example. I can only say that how parents behave affect children since they observe that behavior and can start mimic it even unintentionally. Hope it helps.
