Coronavirus is a large family of viruses known to cause illnesses to humans and animals. Some coronaviruses known to affect humans attack respiratory functions and include Middle east respiratory syndrome (MERS) and Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). The most recent coronavirus in known as COVID-19.
So what is COVID-19?
An infectious disease caused by a recently discovered coronavirus which came to be known to the world after its outbreak un Wuhan China 2019.
Is COVID-19 dangerous?
Yes, the disease is dangerous as it can easily spread among people through small droplets of the nose or mouth when a sick person coughs or exhales the droplets. A person can get the virus by touching contaminated surfaces then transferring the virus into eyes, nose and mouth.
Can I do anything to keep myself safe?
Yes. Some practices that would keep you relatively safe are as follows:
1. Develop a habit of washing hands with soap and running water. Alternatively use alcohol based hand sanitizer to kill any of the virus you could have picked up.
2. Learn to stop touching your face especially the eyes, nose and mouth. Because hands touch many surfaces, you could pick up the virus and transfer it to your body.
3. Observe a social distancing rule of at least one meter between you and the next person to reduce the possibility that someone infected could drop virus filled droplets that you could in turn breathe.
4. When feeling unwell stay at home. When you observe any of the symptoms described for corona virus seek medical attention immediately.
