Assignment: You are to watch a person perform a task, and write what you observed. You should tell only what happened; do not include yourself in the action, but simply watch someone LIVE do an action of some kind. Be sure to focus on the physical activity and on how the individual is doing it (step by step). Lifting something? Building something? Creating something? Cooking something? Making something? Do not try to embellish your writing. Write about the action as if you were doing a play-by-play.
Checklist:
Write the story as an observer and not participant in the scene.
Do not try to describe how people feel or what they may think about. Simply write about what you can see and hear.
Do not write a scene for a novel, short story or film.
Do not use the personal pronoun “I”. Do not include yourself in the story.
Do not refer to people by name. Use generic labels (a man, a woman, a girl, a boy, etc.) to describe them even if you know them.
Start each sentence with a noun followed by a verb, and then an object.
Use correct conventions of writing (paragraphs, punctuation, spelling, grammar).
Art of Painting
A man is preparing the living room for new paint. He removed all the accessories attached to the wall; he located any knob, thermostats, and light switch faceplates and took them off the wall. Afterward, the man cleared the working area of the furniture by scooting them away from the wall being painted. He then stretched out the plastic tarp to catch splatters and spills; subsequently, the man took a clean wet cloth and ran it over the wall from top to bottom. He then used the painter's tape to protect the edges of the walls and around doorways. After preparing the work area, the man began applying the primer by rolling the primer onto the wall; he used a handheld paintbrush in applying the primer into tight crevices.
Later on, the man took the electric paint mixer to blend the paint inside the bucket; thereupon, he dipped the paintbrush into the paint and brushed it on the wall starting from the room's upper corners. He used a wide roller in painting the interior of the wall. In the process, the man took a break of ten minutes. In due course, he applied an additional coat of paint; similarly, he started from the outer edges moving inwards. Eventually, he undressed the attire and assembled the tools into the toolbox.
