in our material reading today, we spoke about values are the glue that binds our society together. We read about values such as justice, dissent, and judgment. we have think about a time when I have relied on one of these values, perhaps at work. Some of the reading is ' Why we must judge" the domain of justice, federal number 10 and letter from Birmingham jail MLK. I must relate that event or occurrence to the readings this week. Im having trouble try to think of a situation or what story to tell. Please help me undertand it more?
For your idea: Values are integral part of society and as members of society individuals hold them dearly. Any acts or behaviors that seems to threaten the existing value system of society will have reactions. In this way, the criminal justice system is a way of keeping in check any form of dissent in society. Examples like "Why we must judge" the domain of justice, federal number 10 and letter from Birmingham jail MLK carry essential values in them and teaches, perpetuates, and continue particular values we hold. As we can see that values are concerned mainly with the notion of what is desirable and undesirable. Value system then become ways by which we maintain stability and order in society. But these values are passed on from leaders, political institutions, and religion, and as a member of society we embraced and put it into practice.
For your case: See yourself as someone who deeply holds the believe of social justice. Social justice aims at providing equal opportunities, and doing away with discrimination irrespective of one's class, sex, gender, and race. You hold within yourself strong notions about social justice particularly when it comes to gender justice- that every forms of gender must be treated equally without prejudice and discrimination. Suppose you were once working as a part time in a cafe. A fine day, a person who identifies as belonging to other gender and dressing quite like a drag came into the cafe you were working. However, the manager did not like the person entering the cafe as he thought this might make people around uncomfortable. He decided to chase away the person. I was watching all of what was happening and could not hold myself and had to tell the manager that what he was doing is not right. I had to explain him things and the values that I deeply hold- that any form of gender should not be discriminated and they deserve equal respect.
