Question 1-Briefly describe the three main theoretical perspectives: Functionalist, Conflict, and Symbolic Interaction Theory. Identify 2 major presidential candidates from the last election. Which theory most represents this candidate's platform? Why?

The functionalist theory is based on the premise that all aspects of a community such as roles, norms, and institutions, are indispensable and purposeful for the long-term survival of the community. The conflict theory states that the community is in a state of perpetual conflict caused by competition for limited resources. Power and denomination maintain social order in society rather than conformity and consensus (Cuff et al., 2006). The symbolic interaction theory states that society is made of symbols used by people to establish meaning, communicate with each other, and develop views about the world. The symbols help interpret situations to take action.

The major presidential candidates from the last election were Joe Biden of the Democratic Party and Donald Trump of the Republican Party. The functionalist theory most represents the candidate’s platform. The contestants developed principle goals that incorporated all aspects of society to ensure prosperity in the US. The platform was meant to ensure the candidates secured support from American citizens and their votes. The candidates used aspects of society to explain their proposed methods of change that will solve complicated issues in the US. Their set goals were based on community principles and the normal way of life.

Question 3- What is the role of the family, school, peer group and media on development? Which is most important? Why

The family starts the process of socialization. The family shapes the capabilities and abilities of a child as determined by the culture. The child is molded in the initial stages and is equipped with the skills, values, and knowledge required in society. The peer group influences a teen and teaches them many social aspects. Peers spend the most time together learning from one another. The school formally introduces the child to the culture of society. A wider background of the culture is introduced to the learner. The customs, taboos, beliefs, values, arts, and sciences are all introduced from a wider cycle (Ghorbani & Jomenia, 2018).

The media communicate direct messages about the culture, its ideologies, and attitudes. Communication media can leave a strong impression on the minds of people. Family is the most important in the process of development. The family introduces the child to the way of life. The ideas and values taught to a child by the family are most likely to stick up to their adulthood. A child does not easily forget what they learned while still young. Parents shape the behavior of children. Strict parents are instrumental in the development of disciplined children (Ghorbani & Jomenia, 2018). The children are also most likely to learn by observing what the parents do.
