Total: Approximately 4-5 pages for Video 1 and Video 2 Observation Essays. Use single-spacing. There are minimal grammar or spelling errors, and the essay is well organized and sophisticated. Write your Classroom Observation Essay in narrative form. You may use the guidelines/questions/statements below to guide your writing.

DESCRIPTION OF VIDEO 1 (guiding ideas):

A one page and ½ (can go up to 2 pages) overview of what this video is about. Include information about what you observed that you believe are related to what we’ve learned about culturally responsive approaches to learning. Also write what were the approaches that got them to write. What are some points that kids make about writing? Keep in mind some major concepts from the course that we’ve covered, e.g., funds of knowledge, culturally responsive teaching that you might have noticed. Refer to Bennett and how children from various linguistic and cultural backgrounds used to motivate and engage students in writing. Note the types of approaches that teachers may use to promote their motivation to write. Also note how they have kids use their own background or personal life for writing. Note examples to support your points. Note whether/how language and culture is valued by the teachers as you see them working with students. After you have written most of this, again think about two concepts from this course that are related to this topic.

VIDEO 2 (28 minutes):

One page for each of the teachers’ classes observed. Each Teacher is worth 3 points for having the following information. (9 points total for this section).
