Patient Safety

It is believed that nursing education significantly improves the safety of patients. The nurses' level of education directly impacts the knowledge and competencies that the nurses have, which directly is translated into the outcomes of the patient's safety. Nursing is diverse, and it contains several fields, and within the areas are several challenges that come with it. This is why the level of education of a nurse directly impacts how they practice and provide care to the patients. Nurses are not only entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring safety to the patients but also entitled to the responsibility of applying evidence-based practices to foster patient safety and improve the outcomes of treatment (Oldland et al., 2020). Majorly the cases that have contributed to poor outcomes of treatment have been a result of medical errors. Research shows that with sufficient education, the rates of medical errors can be reduced significantly up to 5%. This was in a report published by the IOM.

            The institute of medicine's report about the future of nursing suggested that when learning opportunities for healthcare workers were encouraged, the number of injuries and harms that could be caused to patients would significantly reduce. The report acknowledged that errors are common and to error is human; however, nurses with a higher level of education had relatively lower chances of making medical errors (Bates & Singh, 2018). Therefore, I believe that when nurses are subjected to the right training, they will be fully equipped with the required knowledge to live up to the full potential of their training. Even though each level of education is essential in nursing since everyone has a role to play, several opportunities should be made available for the advancements in education to keep up with the current evidence-based skills and practices.

Hi, I agree with your discussion post that nurses are needed to have a baccalaureate degree; this is being advocated because patient care has become a significant concern in the health industry. There are advantages associated with the baccalaureate degree. The health sector is also trying to increase the number of highly skilled nurses to deal with different critical conditions in healthcare (Chaffin, & Jacobson, 2017). BSN nurses are highly competitive because they have clinical practice skills that improve the quality of health care services. They are also equipped with leadership skills that make them handle critical situations at work. Therefore, nurses should take BSN to improve their skills.

Hi, I like your discussion highlighting some of the benefits of taking a DNP as a nurse. You have also mentioned that you would like to pursue a DNP course rather than a Ph.D. because the two are different. DNP focuses on equipping nurses with skills to help them in leadership and practice their profession (McNelis, Dreifuerst, & Schwindt, 2019). At the same time, Ph.D. qualifies the nurse with research skills that will enable them to pursue research work that helps the healthcare deal with specific current issues that affect patients and themselves. Both of these are essential for a nurse, depending on what someone likes.
