Difference between A DNP and A Ph.D. in Nursing
Doctor of Nursing centers on the practical nature of nursing. Its attention is on providing the nurse with skills that will equip them with leadership and clinical skills. Based on the research work conducted, the nurses learn to help them develop means to care for the patients. The leadership skills enabled the nurses to lead their teams (American Sentinel, 2021). By creating means of caring for the patient, the nurses improve the care systems. It also helps them to understand the conclusions drawn from different patients with specific conditions. Ph.D. is not focused on clinical practice but research work. The research helps nurses understand and evaluate their methodologies using the scientific theories; nurses tend to understand both quantitative and qualitative research work in nursing. It enables the nurse to develop their research work and initiate them. The initiated research tends to solve the problems related to nursing and health practices among professionals.
I prefer choosing DNP when I decide to continue with my education at a doctoral level. DNP focuses on my area of interest that is clinical practice. By enrolling for a DNP, I can incorporate my nursing with IT services necessary for nursing because technology keeps on changing and is adaptable in every organization. IT skills are required in handling the management of diseases, and patients care. DNP will also help me develop leadership skills that will help me work with my team members and lead. Through the DNP program, I will improve my skills to practice nursing by increasing the quality of service I offer to patients. Thus, it will increase patient care. Professional leadership creates an entrepreneurial spirit in a nurse that will help in advancing the health care systems. It can also lead to innovative ideas that will enhance the clinical setups. I find DNP interesting because it narrows down to what I am passionate about and loves doing.
