Engineering (Poverty and Racial discrimination Global issues)

Design is very important to fulfil the underserved or unmet needs of poor societies in terms of resource supporting their human and social development. In the world today almost forty percent of the population makes almost two dollars a day. Poverty is widespread to a lot of people even though it is decreasing among the population which affects, causes problems at personal, structural and institutional levels (Jagtap 46-62). Racial discrimination is widespread among the population affecting the way people interact and mingle with each other. The access to resources and environment is saturated with racial discrimination of people of colour, gender, social status, sexuality among many others. Many times poor designed decisions making contributes to discrimination on many platforms.  This paper analyses how poverty and racial discrimination has touched my life as a designer.

Design can help to bring social justice, especially when addressing global issues. Design meditates on life itself. Design can communicate the financial status of consumers through branding (Lee np). They can set standards for which societies consider desirable and normal through art direction. They can determine how the community will look like through architecture. These are some of how designers can showcase their power in the field and cause relevant changes in the field. The design is increasingly engaging with the upcoming issues in the field widespread in the whole world. Many designers are willing and seeking to do social work so that they can impact people.

A global market is a market that involves an exchange of goods, services and ideas across borders. The organizations can access and target customers beyond their countries if they are into global marketing (Coombs and Laufer 199-203). I think participating in the global market through design is the best thing that can happen since I will cause a change to the whole world in the way I frame my thinking. There are a lot of benefits that come with entering into the global business. First is that it provides a bigger audience of your product thus increasing the probability of having many potential buyers. The business also is diversified to reach many international set standards business. In this digital age, entering into an international market has become easier since I don’t have to travel to another country so that I can make the products accessible to them I can sell the products I want in the comfort of my house.

From this cause I have learnt that through excellent ideas, design can change the whole world. Design is the future of the world. Design is all over the world. Design dictates what it wants for the people even with the prevalent conditions. For example, design can satisfy the needs of people living in areas that are marginalized. Design can be used to make a change in the whole world by changing how a place appears. Thus design is very powerful. It promotes change and causes the development of different places. The value of a thing is measured by the cause it can make in the time given. I have changed the way I view design because of the impact it causes on society.

The knowledge I have acquired is very important in the future since the future itself is design. Well, I am going to ensure that the field I choose to go into maximizing the resources available so that I can create a change. Design can only be applicable or cause change if there are ideas that rise to the impending situation. The design gives room for creativity. Thus creativity is inevitable in such situations. I will adopt new ways of addressing issues as well as practice creativity to be displayed in future designs.
