In this week's discussion, I chose an article from the World Health Organization addressing the increase of overweight and obesity in children and adolescents. WHO talks about the increase in overweight and obesity in the last few decades between 1975 and 2016.

According to the World Health Organization in 2016, over 1.9 billion adults aged 18 years and older were overweight. Of these over 650 million adults were obese. In 2016, 39% of adults aged 18 years and over (39% of men and 40% of women) were overweight. In 2019, an estimated 38.2 million children under the age of 5 years were overweight or obese (WHO,2020).

The countries affected more by the increase in children's overweight and obesity are the low- and middle-income due to the lack of healthy nutrition. They expose these children to high-fat, high-sugar, high-salt, energy-dense, and micronutrient-poor foods, which are lower in cost but also lower in nutrient quality (WHO,2020).

To improve and decrease the risk of children and teens overweight and obesity "Supportive environments and communities are fundamental in shaping people's choices, by making the choice of healthier foods and regular physical activity the easiest choice" (WHO,2020).
