Then, discuss the modern relationship between music and politics. How is music (or art more broadly) used in the modern pursuit of political power? Why do you think certain music is chosen for political events or for political candidates?

Part 2: Haydn and Beethoven

Consider the composers we've discussed so far in this course (Corelli, Haydn, and Beethoven). Of these composers, who do you see as having the most creative freedom in their compositional process and who has the least? What factors allowed for this freedom, or lack thereof, and how we can hear this in their music? To fully answer this question, you will need to consider and discuss the composers' individual circumstances that can include, but are not limited to, location, concert culture, and patronage.
