Using the company for which you work or one in which you are interested, choose the conversion approach you would use if the company purchased a new AIS. Explain your choice, including the benefits. Discuss how you envision the testing process.
The conversion approach technique involves converting a company's accounting system from a single-entry to a double-entry system. Conversion approaches are essential since it a simple way to track a business's income and expenses (Jeffrey, 2021). There are different conversion methods that a company can use if they have bought a new AIS (Tutorialspoint, 2021). The conversion methods include phase-in conversion, pilot system, parallel conversion, and direct conversion (Tutorialspoint, 2021). In parallel conversion, the old and new systems work concurrently for a while and the produce from the two systems are matched, and dissimilarity is resolved (Tutorialspoint, 2021). In the phase-in conversion, the system itself is segmented. In direct conversion, the new system is implemented, and the old system is immediately discontinued. Lastly, in the pilot system, the new system is implemented at the pilot site first (Tutorialspoint, 2021).
Therefore, I think the most suitable conversion approach in implementing the new AIS would be the phase-in approach in the company interested in working. This is because the phase-in method progressively replaces the features of the old accounting information system with the different one (Tutorialspoint, 2021). For example, the conversion could be implemented in a more extensive department, such as the sales department, then applied in the inventory department, and then to the warehouse and other departments (Tutorialspoint, 2021). Furthermore, the phase-in conversion would be the most appropriate for the company since it makes many sales of Information Technology hardware, software, and other maintenance services (Jeffrey, 2021). Therefore, gradual modifications will enable efficient data processing, ensuring there is no loss of resources (Tutorialspoint, 2021).
Besides, a phase in conversion will enable the company to train its workers on how to use the new AIS without interfering with their performance (Jeffrey, 2021). Phase-in conversion offers experience and line test before implementation when the purchased AIS involves new technology or radical changes in performance. (Tutorialspoint, 2021). I envision that during the testing process, the project team will develop a final version of the execution plan that defines how the product will be installed, organized, and transitioned to the functional environment.
