Summary of the article

            The selected article is Leading with Vision: A Few Things You May Not Know but Can Use. The article is by Tim Judge.  It explains that vision is an important element in leadership. It is the most discussed aspect in popular journals and books about leadership and leaders. The article has provided quotes about leadership and vision from some of the most popular individuals or leaders around the world. One of the quotes is, "The very essence of leadership is that you have to have a vision. You can't blow an uncertain trumpet." It is a statement from Ted Hesburgh (Judge, 2019).

            Research indicates that using inspirational appeals is one of the most effective ways of influencing behaviour in organizations. No leadership scholar will dispute that vision matters. Leaders can be more effective if they develop a perception in their organizations and teams of where they are headed and an explanation or reason for it (Judge, 2019). This can be done by coming up with a vision. For the leaders to develop a vision that has influence, they have to use substantial imagery over abstract ideas and include a few values.

            One of the ways that the article contributes to contemporary thinking about global leadership is by illustrating how leaders should lead by example. Leading by example is one of the contemporary issues in leadership today. For leaders to influence the globe, they need to have a vision that communicates values that inspire individuals who they lead around the world. The other contemporary aspect in leadership that has been addressed by the article is globalization (Heyzer, 2020). The article provides a guideline for developing an appropriate vision for global leadership.

How the article illustrates the importance of having the vision to lead members globally within an organization including communication tools and techniques for sharing that vision

            The article illustrates the relevance of having the vision to lead members globally by stating that a vision should have the values of the organization and should indicate where the leader is headed and why. In as much as the leaders should include values in their vision, the values included should not be too many (Judge, 2019). They should be ones that articulate the important aspects of the vision and what should be known by other stakeholders.  The communication tools to be used have not been specified by the article. However, the article has stated that it is important for the vision to be communicated for it to be relevant and applicable.  The vision can be shared with employees, customers and other stakeholders through e-mails and social media platforms.

The information will help me to determine the relevant values that I should incorporate in my vision as a global leader. I will use the information from the article in determining how I can influence individuals in my field through the vision that I have created. The information will help me to understand the importance of communicating my vision to the people that I lead (Judge, 2019).

            My opinion on the topic of the article is that it has provided vital information about vision as an appropriate strategy in leadership. The article has also articulated how an individual can formulate an effective vision that can influence other people around the globe. Despite the article having inadequate explanation on the relevance of vision and the communication tools that can be used, it has clearly expressed how leaders can have great influence globally when they have a vision (Judge, 2019).
