According to the CDC, foodborne diseases are so common in America that roughly 1 in 6 people will become sick from one each year. Fruits and vegetables, raw meat and poultry, shellfish, milk, and so many more foods can become hazardous if we are not careful. By fully cooking and washing each food item, disease may be prevented even though it is not guaranteed. A really common food borne pathogen is called Salmonella. Often, Salmonella is associated with raw eggs, which is why it is not recommended to eat raw cookie dough. Eggs being contaminated with feces is perhaps a major reason for becoming a hazard for causing Salmonella. By eating raw cookie dough, or any food with raw eggs, a person may get this illness. In order to prevent this, thoroughly cooking one's food prior to consumption is always recommended. Also, with most food borne pathogens, washing foods such as fruits and vegetables before eating them can be considered a heavily preventative measure.
