New Perspectives PowerPoint 2019 | Module 5: End of Module Project 1

North Bend Municipal Fire Services Presentation

INTEGRATING POWERPOINT WITH OTHER PROGRAMS

GETTING STARTED

  • Open the file NP_PPT19_EOM5-1_FirstLastName_1.pptx, available for download from the SAM website.
  • Save the file as NP_PPT19_EOM5-1_FirstLastName_2.pptx by changing the “1” to a “2”.
    • If you do not see the .pptx file extension in the Save As dialog box, do not type it. The program will add the file extension for you automatically.
  • To complete this SAM Project, you will also need to download and save the following data files from the SAM website onto your computer:
    • Support_PPT19_EOM5-1_FireAwareProgram.pptx
    • Support_PPT19_EOM5-1_FireDanger.docx
    • Support_PPT19_EOM5-1_FireServicesBudget.xlsx
  • With the file NP_PPT19_EOM5-1_FirstLastName_2.pptx still open, ensure that your first and last name is displayed in the presenter notes on Slide 1.
    • If the presenter notes do not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.

PROJECT STEPS

  1. In your role as municipal services coordinator for the Municipality of North Bend in a rural area of Colorado, you work closely with a variety of service providers, including those that provide emergency services such as disaster relief and fire services. You develop a presentation describing the municipality's fire services for delivery to local community groups.
Start by highlighting the text "Guidelines" on the title slide in red.
  2. With the title slide still selected, change the stacking order of the pictures and objects as follows:
Send the picture of the campfire backward until the content placeholder containing the text "North Bend Municipality" and the geometric stripes come to the front.
Send the lightning bolt shape backward so that it appears behind the slide title "Fire Guidelines".
  3. On Slide 3 ("Fire Department Programs"), split the bulleted items into two columns.
  4. Switch to Outline view and then move Slide 5 ("Fire Danger Guidelines") below Slide 6 ("Wildfire Danger"). Return to Normal view.
  5. On Slide 5 ("Wildfire Danger"), bring the red lightning bolt shape to the front of the picture.
  6. On Slide 6 ("Fire Danger Guidelines"), embed and then modify a Word table as follows:
In Word, open Support_PPT19_EOM5-1_FireDanger.docx, then select and copy the table.
Paste the table as an Embed (E) object below the slide title. Merge cells 2 and 3 in row 4 so that the text spans one column. Set the width of the table object to exactly 10". In PowerPoint, use Smart Guides to position the table so that it is centered below the slide title as shown in Figure 1.

  1. On Slide 7 ("Burning Permits"), reset the slide layout.
  2. On Slide 8 ("Burning Permit Fees"), bring the picture to the front so that it appears in front of the content placeholder.
  3. On Slide 9 ("Fire Services Budget"), embed Excel worksheet data from the Excel file Support_PPT19_EOM5-1_FireServicesBudget.xlsx, then edit the worksheet in Excel from PowerPoint as follows:
Change the fill color of the two cells in row 1 to Orange, Accent 2. Center cell B1. Exit the embedded object and increase the width of the Excel worksheet object in PowerPoint to 11". Use Smart Guides to position the embedded object on the slide so that it centered below the slide title as shown in Figure 2.

  1. On Slide 10 ("Budget Breakdown"), change the chart type to Pie.
  2. On Slide 11 ("Volunteer Fire Fighters"), send the picture of the fire fighters to the back.
  3. Reuse the slide titled "Components of Fire Aware" from the Support_PPT19_EOM5-1_FireAwareProgram.pptx presentation as the last slide in the presentation. [Mac Hint – Add complete presentation and then delete the unnecessary slides.]
  4. Switch to Slide Sorter view and work with sections in the presentation as follows:
Add a new section named Fire Danger between Slides 4 and 5 of the presentation. Rename the "Default Section" section using Overview as the name.
  5. Set up the presentation so that Slide 11 ("Volunteer Fire Fighters") is hidden during the slide show.

In Slide Sorter view, your presentation should look like the Final Figure on the following page. Save your changes, close the presentation, and exit PowerPoint. Follow the directions on the SAM website to submit your completed project.
