  • *GETTING STARTED
  • Open the file IL_EX19_EOM7-1_FirstLastName_1.xlsx, available for download from the SAM website.
  • Save the file as IL_EX19_EOM7-1_FirstLastName_2.xlsx by changing the “1” to a “2”.
    • If you do not see the .xlsx file extension in the Save As dialog box, do not type it. The program will add the file extension for you automatically.
  • To complete this SAM Project, you will also need to download and save the following data files from the SAM website onto your computer:
    • Support_EX19_EOM7-1_Clinic4.jpg
    • Support_EX19_EOM7-1_Considerations.docx
    • Support_EX19_EOM7-1_Espinoza.png
    • Support_EX19_EOM7-1_Overview.pptx
    • Support_EX19_EOM7-1_Projection.csv

    • If cell B6 does not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.
  • PROJECT STEPS
  1. Malik Harambi is the business manager for the Espinoza Medical Center in Orlando, Florida. The organization is planning to expand by leasing building space for urgent care clinics. In preparation for a presentation to other managers, Malik is creating an Excel workbook to compare the properties for the first building to lease. He asks for your help to improve the appearance of the workbook and include data stored in other files.
Go to the Properties worksheet, which includes SmartArt to show the four clinic properties Malik is comparing. Change the layout to Bending Picture Blocks. Add a shape to the SmartArt to include the fourth property. Type Clinic 4 in the new shape. Use the picture placeholder to insert the picture Support_EX19_EOM7-1_Clinic4.jpg to the shape.
  2. Malik wants to change the SmartArt to make it larger and more appealing. Resize the SmartArt to a width of 6". Apply the White Outline SmartArt style to use a design that coordinates better with the organization's logo.
  3. Malik wants to include an image of a PowerPoint slide he created comparing the pros and cons of each property. Use PowerPoint to open the presentation Support_EX19_EOM7-1_Overview.pptx. In Excel, use the Screen Clipping tool to paste a screenshot of Slide 1: Pros and Cons into the Properties worksheet. Position the upper-left corner of the screenshot image in cell J1.
  4. Go to the Cost Comparison worksheet. In cell B2, insert the picture Support_EX19_EOM7-1_Espinoza.png to add the organization's logo. Resize the logo to a width of 1" and let the height adjust proportionally to 1.4" to match the logo on the Properties worksheet. Add a border using the Red, Accent 1 picture border color.
  5. Malik originally inserted the Rent Comparison: Year 1 data as a link to another Excel workbook. He needs to update the data once and can then remove the link. Display the links to external files, and then update the link to the workbook Support_EX19_EOM7-1_Rents.xlsx. Break the link to the Support_EX19_EOM7-1_Rents.xlsx file.
  6. Malik has the Monthly Rent Comparison: Years 1-4 data stored in a text file. Import the data from the Text/CSV file Support_EX19_EOM7-1_Projection.csv. Load the data to a location in the worksheet. View the imported data as a table and insert the data in cell B11 of the existing worksheet.
  7. Apply the Red, Table Style Medium 9 to the imported table to coordinate with the rest of the worksheet contents. Format the range D12:G15 using the Currency number format and no decimal places. Center the contents of the range C11:G15, and then resize columns C–G to their best fit. (Hint: The width of column C should be approximately 8.9, column D should be approximately 14.5, column E should be approximately 14.1, column F should be approximately 20.25, and column G should be approximately 15.4.)
  8. Malik has a Word document with a table that lists other leasing considerations for each property. Use Word to open the document Support_EX19_EOM7-1_Considerations.docx. Copy the table and then paste it into the Cost Comparison worksheet starting in cell B18 keeping the source formatting.
  9. Malik asks you to make a correction to the embedded data. In cell C20, change the term to 5 years for the West Side clinic.

Your workbook should look like the Final Figures on the following pages. Save your changes, close the workbook, and then exit Excel. Follow the directions on the SAM website to submit your completed project.
