For this assignment, each student will need to consider what event (real or fictitious) you will manage for your term project.  This needs to be an event in which you are the primary event manager, and have the control and responsibility that accompany that position.  Although your final project may look different that what you conceptualize in this first assignment, properly considering the final project will help you substantially later in the course.

In assignment 1, students will build a vision statement based on the goals of his/her event.  This vision should encompass the whole purpose of the event but also be specific to what the short-term and long-term goals are.  Next, students need to thoroughly a SWOT analysis and identify and assign roles within the event, including the use of paid, volunteer, and contractor services. Finally, students must build a checklist with a timeline for completion (see examples in this week's resources) that addresses the different facets of running your event, including preliminary meetings, event day concerns, and post-event operations.
