  • *GETTING STARTED
  • Open the file SC_PPT19_5b_FirstLastName_1.pptx, available for download from the SAM website.
  • Save the file as SC_PPT19_5b_FirstLastName_2.pptx by changing the “1” to a “2”.
    • If you do not see the .pptx file extension in the Save As dialog box, do not type it. The program will add the file extension for you automatically.
  • To complete this SAM Project, you will also need to download and save the following data files from the SAM website onto your computer:
    • Support_PPT19_5b_Computer.jpg
  • With the file SC_PPT19_5b_FirstLastName_2.pptx still open, ensure that your first and last name is displayed in the presenter notes on Slide 1.
    • If the presenter notes do not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.
  • PROJECT STEPS
  1. You have created a small publishing company called Fir Tree Books that works with authors to bring their books to the market. To help authors understand the publishing process, you have created a presentation outlining the Six Phases of Publishing Success. Begin editing the presentation by replying to the comment on Slide 1 with the text Agree, and then close the Comments pane.
  2. Resize the slides in the presentation to Widescreen.
  3. Find the text "Promotion" and replace it with Launch. (Hint: Do not type the period.)
     
  4. Switch to Slide Sorter View, and work with sections in the presentation as follows:
    1. Add a section between Slides 1 and 2 of the presentation.
    2. Rename the new section Phases 4 to 6. (Hint: Do not type the period.)
    3. Change the name of the section called "Untitled Section" to Phases 1 to 3. (Hint: Do not type the period.)
    4. Collapse all the sections.
    5. Change the order of the sections as follows:
      § Default Section
      § Overview
      § Phases 1 to 3
      § Phases 4 to 6
      § End
    6. Expand all the sections and return to Normal View.
  5. Display the Comments pane, and then modify comments in the presentation as follows:
    1. On Slide 2 ("Why Publish?"), insert a comment with the text: Perfect picture!
    2. Edit the comment on Slide 5 ("Phase 3: Marketing Plan") by replacing "audience" with competition. (Hint: Do not type the period.)
    3. Delete the comment on Slide 7 ("Phase 5: Paperback & eBook Design").
    4. Close the Comments pane.
  6. On Slide 2 ("Why Publish?"), enhance the picture as follows:
    1. Apply a Dark Red, Accent 1 picture border with a 4½ point border weight.
    2. Apply the Plastic Wrap Artistic Effects.
    3. Add the alt text in the Description box: Red Publish button on the lower right portion of a computer keyboard.
  7. With Slide 2 ("Why Publish?") still displaying, modify the bullet symbol as follows:
    1. Change the bullet to the Hollow Square Bullets symbol for all three bullets.
    2. Change the size of the bullet to 110% of text.
    3. Change the color of the bullet symbol to Green, Accent 4, Lighter 80%.
  8. With Slide 2 ("Why Publish?") still displaying, change the line spacing of the bullet points to 2.0.
  9. On Slide 3 ("Phase 1: Structural Edit"), change the list numbering style to A., B., C.
  10. On Slide 4 ("Phase 2: Copy Edit"), format the bulleted text in two columns and modify as follows:
    1. Change the spacing between the two columns to 0.4".
    2. Move "Verify Timelines" so that it appears at the top of Column 2.
  11. On Slide 5 ("Phase 3: Marketing Plan"), use Format Painter to match the formatting of "Audience" to the "Competition" heading.
  12. With Slide 5 ("Phase 3: Marketing Plan") still displaying, animate the two text boxes as follows:
    1. Animate the Audience text box using the Curvy Right motion path.
    2. Add the Applause sound to the animation of the Audience text box.
    3. Use the Animation Painter to apply the same animation options to the Competition text box.
    4. Change the order of the animations so that the Competition text box is animated before the Audience text box.
  13. On Slide 6 ("Phase 4: Cover Design"), modify the animation applied to the picture of the woman at a computer as follows:
    1. Change the direction of the Fly In animation so that the picture enters the slide from the Top-Right.
    2. Remove the Teeter animation.
    3. Add the Spin Emphasis animation. [Mac Hint – Emphasis Effects, Basic, Spin.]
  14. On Slide 7 ("Phase 5: Paperback & eBook Design"), change the bullet for "Create the ebook design" to a picture using Support_PPT19_5b_Computer.jpg.
  15. On Slide 8 ("Phase 6: Launch Plan"), modify the text boxes as follows:
    1. Change the left margin of the text in the light green rectangle (contains the text "Get Reviews") to 0.4".
    2. Use the format painter with objects to apply the formatting of the light green text box to the red text box.
    3. Draw a connector using the Connector: Elbow Arrow connector style between the two text boxes.
    4. Change the Shape Outline color of the connector to Green, Accent 4, Lighter 80%.
    5. Change the weight of the connector to 3 point.
  16. On the final slide in the presentation, enhance the picture as follows:
    1. Recolor the picture using Dark Red, Accent color 1 Light.
    2. Apply the Round Bevel picture effect. [Mac Hint – Circle Bevel.]
  17. With the final slide still displaying, enhance the text "Connect with Readers!" with the Glow: 5 point; Dark Red, Accent color 1 text effect.
  18. With the final slide still displaying, modify the animation of the "Connect with Readers!" text box as follows:
    1. Dim the text after animation by changing the After animation setting to red.
    2. Delay the animation for the "Connect with Readers!" text box so that it starts 2 seconds after the animation of the picture.

In Slide Sorter view, your presentation should look like the Final Figure on the following page. Save your changes, close the presentation, and exit PowerPoint. Follow the directions on the SAM website to submit your completed project.
