Presentation for Pacific Gardeners

USING ADVANCED FEATURES

GETTING STARTED

  • Open the file SC_PPT19_8b_FirstLastName_1.pptx, available for download from the SAM website.
  • Save the file as SC_PPT19_8b_FirstLastName_2.pptx by changing the “1” to a “2”.
    • If you do not see the .pptx file extension in the Save As dialog box, do not type it. The program will add the file extension for you automatically.
  • With the file SC_PPT19_8b_FirstLastName_2.pptx still open, ensure that your first and last name is displayed in the presenter notes on Slide 1.
    • If the presenter notes do not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.
  • PROJECT STEPS
  1. As the office manager for Pacific Gardeners, a not-for-profit organization that provides gardening advice and services to people in the Seattle area, you have been asked to create a presentation that provides beginning gardeners with useful gardening tips.

Switch to Slide Master view, then modify the Title Slide Layout as follows to emphasize the subtitle and balance the design of the title slide:
    1. Change the height of the photo to 6" while leaving the width at 6" so that the photo better fills the slide.
    2. Change the subtitle to use a 28-point font size.
  2. Still in Slide Master view, modify the Title Slide Layout to use Background Style 2 to add visual interest to the slide layout. Exit Slide Master view.
  3. Switch to Handout Master view, then customize the Handout master as follows:
    1. Enter Gardening Tips as the header text.
    2. Change the font size of the header text to 24-point.
    3. Change the handout orientation to Portrait.
    4. Exit Handout Master view.
  4. Switch to Notes Page view. On the Notes page for Slide 2, add the following note, then switch back to Normal view:
Container gardening is an option if you're short of space.
  5. Switch to Notes Master view, then customize the Notes Master as follows:
    1. Change the font for notes to Century Schoolbook to match the font used in the presentation.
    2. Enter Pacific Gardeners as the footer text.
    3. Change the font size of the footer text to 20-point.
    4. Change the option to remove the date from the notes. Exit Notes Master view and return to Normal view.
  6. Check the accessibility of the presentation to make sure all viewers can understand the slides. Go to the slide that contains the accessibility error, and then type: Add alt text as a note for that slide.
  7. Create a summary zoom slide to display at the end of the presentation as follows:
    1. Include Slides 2–6 in the summary zoom slide.
    2. Type Gardening Tips Summary as the title of the summary zoom slide. Move the Summary Section to the end of the presentation.
  8. Set up the slide show so that each slide is displayed for 2 seconds before automatically advancing to the next slide with no mouse clicks.
  9. Create a Custom Slide Show that focuses on gardening tips only as follows:
    1. Use Plant Care as the name of the Custom Slide Show.
    2. Include Slides 4–6 in the Custom Slide Show.

In Slide Sorter view, your presentation should look like the Final Figure on the following page. Save your changes, close the presentation, and exit PowerPoint. Follow the directions on the SAM website to submit your completed project.
