ENHANCING AN ONLINE FORM

  • *GETTING STARTED
  • Open the file SC_WD19_11b_FirstLastName_1.docm, available for download from the SAM website.
  • Save the file as SC_WD19_11b_FirstLastName_2.docm by changing the “1” to a “2”.
    • If you do not see the .docm file extension in the Save As dialog box, do not type it. The program will add the file extension for you automatically.
  • To complete this SAM Project, you will also need to download and save the following data files from the SAM website onto your computer:
    • Support_WD19_11b_Forms.dotx
  • With the file SC_WD19_11b_FirstLastName_2.docm still open, ensure that your first and last name is displayed in the footer.
    • If the footer does not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.
  • To complete this project, you will need to display the Developer tab.
    • If the Developer tab does not display, click the File tab to open Backstage View and then click the Options button. In the Word Options dialog box, click Customize Ribbon and then click the Developer check box. Click the OK button to close the Word Options dialog box and confirm the Developer tab appears in the Word ribbon.
  • PROJECT STEPS
  1. You are a swimming instructor at the Ryanville Swim Club in Ryanville, West Virginia, and are helping the club create an online registration form for swimming lessons. You are improving the appearance and usefulness of the form by applying styles and using macros to automate tasks.
The club director saved a few steps by using a macro to set the paper size of all club forms. To change to the new custom size the club uses, edit and run the macro as follows:
    1. Unprotect the document so that you can edit it.
    2. Edit the PaperSize macro in the Visual Basic Editor.
    3. Change the PageWidth value to 8.5 to set the new width.
    4. Change the PageHeight value to 5.75 to set the new height.
    5. Save the revised macro and exit the Visual Basic Editor.
    6. Run the PaperSize macro to change the size of the form.
  2. Delete the PrintForm macro, which you do not need.
  3. Modify the First Name, Last Name, Phone, and Email content controls as follows:
    1. Convert the table containing the First Name, Last Name, Phone, and Email content controls to text, separating the text with paragraph marks, to display the content controls in four separate paragraphs.
    2. Change the left indent of the First Name and Phone paragraphs to 0.08" so that they align with the other paragraphs in the form.
  4. Copy a style from a Ryanville Swim Club form template, and then apply the style to a heading to use consistent formatting in all the club forms as follows:
    1. Import the Form Title style from the file Support_WD19_11b_Forms.dotx.
    2. Apply the Form Title style to the "Registration Form" paragraph.
  5. Create a character style for check box labels as follows:
    1. Use Box Label as the name of the new style.
    2. Specify that you are creating a character style.
    3. Base the new style on the Default Paragraph Font.
    4. Set the font color of the new style to Plum, Accent 2 (6th column, 1st row in the Theme Colors palette).
  6. Apply the Box Label character style to the five check box labels "4:00 to 4:40 pm", "4:45 to 5:25 pm", "5:30 to 6:10 pm", "6:15 to 6:55 pm", and "Private lesson (please specify time):".
  7. Format the Ryanville club logo in the upper-right corner of the document as follows to make the picture more striking:
    1. Apply a color saturation of 200%.
    2. Apply a color tone temperature of 7200 K.
    3. Compress the picture using the E-mail (96 ppi) compression setting to reduce the file size so that you can share the form with others via email.
  8. Position and group the Ryanville club logo and the "Swim Club" rectangle as follows to clarify that they belong together:
    1. Position the club logo picture in the Top Right with Square Text Wrapping.
    2. Group the club logo picture and the "Swim Club" rectangle to ensure they are kept together.
  9. Format the text box containing the text "Join today!" as follows to incorporate it into the form:
    1. Change the direction of the text to Rotate all text 90°.
    2. Remove the outline and the fill of the text box shape.
    3. Apply the Isometric Top Up 3-D rotation effect.
    4. Set an absolute horizontal position of 6.4" to the right of the Margin and an absolute vertical position of 4.2" below the Margin.

Your document should look like the Final Figure on the following pages. Save your changes, close the document, and then exit Word. Follow the directions on the SAM website to submit your completed project.
