  1. Picture-bride system
  2. Nisei generation
  3. Angel Island
  4. Johnson-Reed Immigration Act of 1924

Step-by-step explanation

  1. Picture-bride system is a system established by matchmakers where men are reviewing picture of single women, mostly young women, who are looking for American husbands. These women, known as "picture brides", are mostly Japanese immigrants. The picture brides played the essential role in the establishment of the Japanese American community.
  2. Nisei generation is the second generation of the Japanese-Americans and also the term for the children of the Japanese immigrants in America who were forcibly evacuated from their homes due to the bombing on the Pearl Harbor by the Japanese. When the U.S. was already in command of the Pacific, the Nisei were accepted for U.S. military services.
  3. The Angel Island was the island declared by President Millard Fillmore as a military reserve during the Civil War. It continued to be a military reserve during the war between Japan and America in the World War II.
  4. The John-Reed Immigration Act of 1924 was enacted to limit the number of immigrants who will enter United States. This includes any Asian lineage who won't be allowed entry in the country. The said law stated that even Asians who were allowed previously to enter in the U.S., the Japanese in particular, would not be admitted in the United States.
