In which way does the existence of EEO regulations contradict HRM s overall unitarist foundations?
One of the provisions of the law established "protected classes" - people from groups who had to be given preference in recruiting and selection so that their numbers would increase to assure equality in the workplace. Those rules created a system where some groups (white males, for example) could be passed over for hiring or promotion in favor of somebody from a protected class (women, older workers, disabled workers, etc) even if their qualifications were not as strong. That contradicts the unitarist philosophy that everybody should be part of a big happy family and be treated equally.
