The patient failed to respond to oral iron therapy and further tests were made. Additional tests for Epstein-Barr virus, parvovirus B19, cytomegalovirus and mycoplasma are all negative. IgA, IgG and IgM are all within the normal levels. However, serum anti-tissue transglutaminase and anti-reticulin are positive. A duodenal biopsy was then arranged.
