to choose one case study.

Case study report will have four sections: (1) introduction; (2) necessary legal background/literature review; (3) stakeholders and positions/strategies within the legal framework; and (4) solution/lessons learned/discussion evaluating the strategies of the stakeholders. For the first two sections, you will rely on course material and your own research to set the general foundation for explaining the strategic/legal options of the stakeholders and evaluating them in the third and fourth sections.

Your task is to identify the goals of the stakeholders, as they relate to the issue of that unit. For the first unit, the issue is “Land Use”. Beyond that, the goals within the existing legal framework will differ depending on the particular case study you are working on, however the structure and grading for the case studies is the same.

Make sure to separate your report into four sections: (1) introduction; (2) necessary legal background/literature review; (3) stakeholders and positions/strategies within the legal framework; and (4) solution/lessons learned/discussion evaluating the strategies of the stakeholders.

The sections will be evaluated on the following basis. An excellent score is achieved by comprehensively answering the questions/following the instructions in each section based on at least five credible sources for each section (and some of the sections could overlap in some of the sources of evidence, however, the greater variety of sources that you use, the more comprehensive your answer will be and the higher your score will be).

Introduction: In the introduction, clearly state what the stakeholder’s challenges are within the scope of the unit’s topic (this should be 2-3 sentences), what options for addressing those challenges could be/have been (2 sentences) and what option you will try to show is optimal (1-2 sentences)

Necessary legal background/literature review (about 2-3 pages): In this section you discuss the legal/strategic background necessary for understanding the positions the stakeholders are taking without mentioning the specific stakeholders, just focusing on the legal/strategic background. This section relies on at least five distinction sources and comprehensively answers:

How historically have similar cases been approached (strategically/legally)?

What contributed to success/failure in the past?

In the scholarly literature, what have been identified as the current strategic or legal challenges that stakeholders face?

What programs, legislation, legal provision are being developed that stakeholders can turn to when faced with the particular issues in question?

You are drawing on at least one of the texts assigned for this unit

Stakeholders and positions/strategies within the legal framework (about 3-4 pages): In this section, explain what problem or challenges the stakeholders faced in achieving their goal. This section relies on at least five distinction sources and comprehensively answers:

What were their past and what are their current strategies (which could be part of the challenge in this case)?

How successful have their past efforts been, in the context of the legal background and challenges you explained in the previous section?

What legal or other constraints do the stakeholders face in achieving their goal?

What resources may the stakeholders require in achieving their goal?

Solution/lessons learned/Discussion evaluating the strategies of the stakeholders (about 2-3 pages): In this section, you finally evaluate the strategies of the stakeholders in light of the legal background/framework section and the positions/strategies section. This section relies on at least five distinction sources and comprehensively answers

In the end, what most contributes, contributes, or may contribute to the stakeholder’s

success/failure?

Evaluate what is or would have been the best strategy for the stakeholder to use and why?
