Activity 3. You are the Head Nurse of the Medical Intensive Care Unit with bed occupancy of 15. The unit oftentimes full of patients. You have 10 staff nurses and 5 nursing attendants.
Because of understaffing, you have started to cancel same off duties to be given at a later date. Overtime has been frequent. The staff shave started to complain. Some called in sick while absences became frequent.
You formally request for additional staff but 2 floaters refused claiming they have no experience in the MICU. You are given 2 new licensed volunteer nurses who do not have any training at all but are willing to be trained.
As a nurse manager in the unit, how are you going to handle all the problems in the MICW? Identify each arising problem and give proposed solution after.
