Whether you are stressed due to work or personal issues it does cause obstacles to face as well as barriers to performance and learning which further impacts your ability to provide the appropriate services to your clients as well as yourself. Supervision is known to be the cornerstone of great social work practice and needs to function effectively at all levels of the organization (Bara, 2021). Utilizing supervision, it s a great way to address any concerns and employ strategies to overcome them. Supervision is for supporting the employee and ensuring they are gaining something from the time you meet with them. Personally, I have been the stressed individual with both work and personal life stress which has further impacted my work and I wish I had the correct supervision occurring at that time of my life. However, it was not and it just urges me to be the best supervisor I can be in the future. First, we need to be supportive and show support to our employee as well as urging them to find the sense of self-worth and encouraging them that they can overcome this difficulty (Kadushin & Harkness, 2014). We need to address the social, psychological, and any physical medical concerns and find avenues for the workers to take to achieve their desired goals (Kadushin & Harkness, 2014). For this supervisee that is stressed both with work and personal issues, we would work with them to understand that all anxiety and discomfort surrounding learning does not necessary employ to be negative and harmful to the effective learning that can be reached (Guiffrida, 2015). We can use this as motivation if it is in a moderate sense. We can teach this employee that this may mean they are excited and nervous for their position which may be perceived as stress due to other instances that are occurring at home. Which brings me to the point of ensuring that our employee does not need to take time off from work due to these home concerns and if they do, then they are provided this time without judgement in doing so. As an supervisor, we must be able to feel for our supervisees while ensuring their mental health is taken care of for not only well-being but retention in the position as well. We will continue to reevaluate the stress levels during weekly supervisions and ensure that the large obstacles are alerted or overcome and if not, then employ a new strategy. The employee needs to feel supported in all that they do. Mental health is top priority and we must ensure that this is taken care of for our employees. With positive mental health comes the ability to perform at a greater level.
