Assessment 1: Digital marketing Plan Pitch
Written Assessment
Our business idea is recycling of aluminium cans and plastic bottles only. We aim to collect these materials and sell them directly to the recycling plants. Waste is building up in landfill sites and recycling is the best solution. Our target audience are the schools of Auckland. As sustainability and environmental issues are embedded in the New Zealand curriculum, schools would support efforts for recycling (National Library of New Zealand, 2017). Recycling reduces waste in landfills thus reducing the carbon footprint and the need for harvesting new materials. Our business will provide schools with bins for the recycling. Schools will be reimbursed based on the amount of recycling collected. Our digital marketing campaign focuses on the damaging impact waste has on the environment and the need for recycling for the users of the service- the school children.
Our digital marketing campaign will focus on educating and promoting recycling and its importance. To achieve this objective a variety of social media channels including Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. The marketing campaign will include short videos and online posters to promote and educate learners showing the importance of recycling and the benefits. The market gap identified is the recycling of specific goods, that is aluminium cans and plastic bottles. A Container Return Scheme of recycling is common in other countries but has not yet been established in New Zealand (Ministry for the environment, 2022). This is a gap in the market that we have identified and are looking to fill.
Our business is a (B2B) business to business relationship. We collect the recycling from the schools and sell the recycling-to-recycling plants at a marked-up price. The marked-up price will be 100%. The business will buy aluminium cans and plastic bottles for 10 cents each and sell them to the recycling firms for 20 cents each (Dwyer, 2019). We therefore achieve a 100% mark-up. Our business will have a monthly subscription fee for schools as the business will supply and empty the bins weekly. Our business can be profitable because of the large number of schools in Auckland and the number of schools going children. The users are roughly 566 schools in Auckland (Figure NZ, 2023) with a user population of approximately 276 000 learners (Education Courts, 2023).
Timeline to launch this business is one year. We will need to establish a relationship with recycling plants willing to pay us for purchasing our products. Establish a relationship with schools who want to join this program. The benefit for schools is that they will receive reimbursement from collecting waste. Supply enough bins to the schools and Secure transport for the recycling. Establish a relationship with the Ministry of Education to get their permission to do this project.
