Sustainability is a broad concept. The UN defines sustainable development as "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." Another way to think about sustainable business is represented by the UN Global Compact, which states: "Corporate sustainability starts with a company's value system and a principles-based approach to doing business. This means operating in ways that, at a minimum, meet fundamental responsibilities in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption." 1
