Preparation: 1. Research and choose a scholarly critical article (or book chapter) on any of the works assigned semester. Article must come from online database accessible through Calhoun's library (Gale Literature, Literary Reference Center, etc.) https://calhoun.edu/Library/ 2. Download the article as a .pdf. You will be submitting the .pdf file along with your finished essay. 3. Read the article, taking close notes on the author's interpretation/argument of the work (i.e. narrative, essay, short story, poem, etc.). 4. Identify, summarize, and respond to three points the author makes in his/her article. (Hint: Choose points you find interesting/significant, convincing/not convincing, etc.) 5. If you have any question at all about the credibility of the article, feel free to show it to me or send me a link. I would be glad to discuss it/the assignment with you. Assignment Overview: Write a 1-2 page critical summary/response of your selected article. You must identify three points the author makes, summarizing and responding to each point. Quote from the article to support the summary/response of the three points that you identify as being significant. Essay must follow MLA format for document design, in-text citation, and works cited. The objective here is to give you an opportunity to practice doing a little research and to practice your critical reading and writing skills. You may learn something interesting along the way, too. Imagine that. An evaluation rubric is available with assignment link in Bb before and after the assignment so that you may see how the paper will be evaluated.
