Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is the most significant piece of discrimination-related legislation. This is due to the FY 2018 statistical data provided by the EEOC (2019), which indicated retaliation, sex, race, age, national origin, color, religion, and genetic information, as 8 of the 10 most frequently filed charges. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 covers these 8 charges. Additionally, Title VII created the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). It is due to the frequency of filed complaints being related to Title VII that I opine it as being the most significant law concerning discrimination, certainly not the importance of the individual complaint (EEOC, 2019).

There is a significance of Title VII in American history akin to the division of time as B.C. and A.D. Before Title VII, American society was divided among many arbitrary lines of race, color, gender, religion, et al., and employers were able to discriminate without the fear of legal consequences. After its passing, Title VII did not alter the fabric of society overnight; however, it did usher in an era of progress that continues to this current day.

Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 established the legal definition of discrimination and created protections for complainants and employees with sincerely held religious practices (US EEOC, NA). Title VII has expanded to protect against additional forms of discrimination like sexual harassment, and retaliation. More recently, Title VII was interpreted to include discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Title VII protects individuals from being discriminated against by employers based on their race, color, gender, religion, national origin, sex, and gender.

In recent years American society, partly ushered in by the #metoo movement, has made strides in establishing equitable workplace practices. Title VII's expanded protection against sexual harassment has benefited women and men by establishing appropriate workplace practices with regard to sexual conduct. These best practices have improved workplace environments and increased productivity.

The modern complaint resolution process greatly benefits from Title VII's protections against retaliation. Protecting the complaint is an integral part of a healthy complaint resolution process. Without protection against retaliation, complainants would likely be subjected to intimidation, demotion, termination, or other adverse actions. Employees are more likely to report incidents of discrimination and harassment if they are protected from retaliation. Title VII requires employers to afford employees protection from retaliation.

Title VII has benefited American society by promoting equity and diversity and ushering in the age of the modern workplace. The improvements to society made by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 can not be understated.

I am Charnesa Logan and live in Memphis, TN. I am currently a manager with the City of Memphis. I am also in my last term to complete my Bachelors Degree in Business Admin. I am hopeful that my degree will help me progress in my career. However, my ultimate goal is to open my own CPA Firm.

In my opinion I think reputation would be first for me. Knowing how well you operate your business and how financially strong you are important to me. Knowing that you don't have sketchy or questionable business practices provides a confidence that the company is trustworthy. Employing individuals that are knowledgeable and practice good work ethics can contribute to the longevity of an entity or organization.

The least important principle is a diversification. While its not recommended to have all your eggs in one basket. However, with small businesses or a person with small/limited incomes may not be able to invest in more than one stock at a time. Especially when you're new to the process. So knowing how diversified an organization is may not make much sense.

As a stockholder or manager, I still stand firm on having a quality reputation. However, as a stockholder diversification would move higher on my list of importance.

Hello, my name is Carolyn and I live in st. Augustine Florida. I am a Master colorist and stylist for over 31 years and the director of operations for a company that has chain salons across the United States. As the wife of a now retired Marine, the constant moving, taking care of the family, I had pushed completing my education to the back burner. I owned my dream salon when we were stationed in Japan but now that we are older my goals have changed. I enjoy the company I work for but want to start taking more time for myself and that means having a business that doesn't require me to be there 24/7. I want to keep my hands in and I can't imagine not doing hair, but I want my business to generate income for us in the future. I haven't decided yet what that business will be, but I know that spending more time with my family is first priority. The project plan I will be developing is a large scale beauty conference that will include training programs, informational seminars, hands on workshops, and product use. Having everything combined into a 3-day program that can be moved from city to city and used by the company to promote the business and to educate both clients and employees.
