Classical school of criminology is one of the popular school of criminology that is founded by Cesare Beccaria. Classical school of criminology believes that a certain person has their own free will and that they know the difference between right from wrong. That is why, under this school of thought, all people are being punished including children and insane individual and no one is exempted since they believe that all individuals knows what is right drim wrong. They look more on the crime committed by a certain person and not on the person itself disregarding its other circumstances like the lack of intelligence and intent of a person. Unlike in the theory of born criminals and positive school of criminology by Cesare Lombrosso, it asserted that crime is not a choice. People commit crimes not because they wanted it but simply because they are born with it. That is why, in classical school of criminology, criminal justice system focus more on retribution to deter future crimes. While in positive school, criminal justice system focus more on rehabilitation to treat criminal offenders.
