In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, the death rate of Ghana has surged. There is therefore, no need for the country to spend its resources to curb population growth when there are other important developmental challenges to be tackled" . In five (5) ways, examine the validity of this statement.
Covid-19 has affected different economies in different ways. Ghana for instance in this scenario has recorded high death rate which means that the problem of population growth rate has been taken care of. The government can therefore channel resources into other programs and projects that help boost the economy.
The validity of this statement can be examined in the following ways:
1. The pandemic is something that no government can wish for because of its high infectious nature thus causing loss of many lives. But this is also positive to Ghana in that the problem of population growth rate has been taken care of.
2. The government of Ghana can channel the resources into other projects which can help being the economy back to equilibrium.
3. Considering that the aged are more vulnerable to the disease, this means that the aged people may be compelled to leave their jobs hence creation of job opportunities to the youth and the younger generation.
4. The government of Ghana has the chance to focus more resources on technological development and e-services due to the social-distancing and many people working from home.
5. With the lock-downs and shutting of international flights there are very few or no imports into the country, Ghana can now focus on developing the local industries to produce more gods and services to meet the demand within the country thus increasing the GDP of the country.
