What were the economic strategies of the Spaniards in the different regions of Latin America? Unlike the British, the Spanish tried to make the indigenous people Spanish like them, instead of pushing them out of their territories. How did they do it? Why? Do you think the British didn't mix with the natives because they wanted to respect and preserve their culture?
The Spaniards were "colonizing" not evangelizing the people of wherever country they happen to set foot on to. This happened to be the problem of any other countries before not just Southern America. The Spaniards and British were very different in many ways, indeed both had the desire to take over and colonize, the Spaniards never forced the people out of the country unlike the British, they were also active into involving themselves with the culture of the country unlike the British who didn't lay a finger on whatever the people believe in. However, the Spaniards always had a scheme behind their "good purpose" for aside from converting people to Christianity, and knowing each other's culture, they want to own the country and treat he people as mere beneficiaries of their success and wealth. They also happened to slain many lives as the people try to fought for independence. I think the British people wanted to know the people's culture and otherwise but South America were not too trusting anymore of colonizers who would take their country from them. They were too afraid to suffer from the long years of colonization and losing integrity with the culture they have adopted. The pushing away of people from their country of the British might be a reason of fear and resistance since there was an ongoing war between the British and the North Americans at that time.
