Honors Project 2)Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead

After reading Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead and going over the directions, rules, and ideas presented on the Project Overview, complete the tasks below. You should refer to the texts of both Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead and Hamlet as you prepare and write your scene/narrative and your justification paragraph.

1)In a scene of at least two pages or a narrative of at least one page, depict or describe what happens to Rosencrantz and Guildenstern between the time they walk off stage in Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead and the time of their deaths at the hands of the English king. What do the characters do? What do they say? What events lead to their demise? How do they feel along the way?

Rules

a)     Rosencrantz and Guildenstern must die. You cannot change what is stated in either Hamlet or Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.

b)     Their deaths must occur in England and must be carried out on the orders of the English king as directed by the letter Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are carrying. Their deaths must happen in this way so that the logic of the English ambassador announcing their deaths in Denmark is maintained.

c)     Your depiction of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern must be consistent with Shakespeare's and Stoppard's depictions of the characters. They cannot do or say things that indicate major, unexplained shifts in their personalities. For example, Rosencrantz cannot suddenly become brilliantly philosophical in your work; Guildenstern cannot inexplicably turn into a villainous mastermind.

d)     You must explain the choices you made and the reasons you have for depicting or describing the deaths of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern as you did. You should justify your decisions with information and quotations from both Stoppard's play and Shakespeare's play.

2)     Citing specific details and quotations from both Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead and William Shakespeare's Hamlet, explain your reasons for depicting or describing the events leading up to the deaths of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern as you did. Justify the choices you made and the direction in which you decided to take the story in your scene or narrative.
