Cooling Load Assignment (15 Marks) As an energy professional, you have been hired to estimate the cooling load for your client's residence. Your job is to calculate the required tonnage of the AC units to be installed to the mentioned building in addition to estimating the energy consumed. Please consider the following: 1. You need to determine the cooling load both in the hottest day in summer and the coldest day in winter (in Tons of refrigeration) taking into consideration all of the building major envelope components; both opaque and transparent components, namely: a. all exterior walls b. windows and glass doors 2. Please refer to your lecture notes for all required equations and tables. Although Kuwait is located roughly around latitude 30N, you can still use the 40N data tables provided in your lecture notes. Assume all walls to be 20 cm (8 inch) brick with resistance 0.80 hr.ft.F/Btu 3. You are free to select the building that you prefer. A simple building would, preferably, be your own home. Otherwise, choose your preferred building. However, for whatever building you select, you should determine the square area of all exterior walls as well as for all transparent surfaces. 4. You should search both the maximum and the minimum outside air DBT in your area both in summer and winter. You are also free to assume a reasonable value for the inside air DBT in both seasons. For any other missing parameters, assume reasonable values. 5. For illustration, please provide a basic top-view sketch showing only the building exterior layout as well as the locations of windows and other transparent openings. Also show the North direction on your sketch. (a sample sketch is shown below) window i window 2 window 3 X Glass Door I Page 23 Your grade will be distributed as follows: 40% for the proper determination and considering of the envelope components: Including all components (25%) Proper consideration for the orientation of each surface (10%) Layout sketch of the building (5%) 40% for the numerical analysis: Heat flow through walls (20%) Heat flow through transparent surfaces (20%) 20% for the organization: Cover page (5%) Arranging the report into sections: introduction, body, and discussion (10%) Overall report presentation and organization (5%) Please use font 12 Arial, 1.5-line spacing and submit your report in pdf format via turnitin
