Are you in favor of nuclear energy as an alternative source of electricity in the country? What are the pros and cons of using this energy source?

 

No, I am not in favor of nuclear energy even as an alternative source of electricity.

Here are several pros and cons we could have on the list.

Pros:

1) It is a reliable source of source of energy, one thing that solar and wind energy don't have. No matter what the weather is, nuclear energy will still be a stable source.

2)It is more environmental friendly because it doesn't release greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

3) There is an abundant supply of Uranium on earth unlike the fossil fuel, which may run out in the near future.

4)It's one of the most cost-effective energy there is compared when we're using oil or coal to produce power.

Cons:

1) Just like coal and oil, Uranium is also non-renewable. It may last longer than the coal, oil, other natural gases, but it doesn't mean that we have an infinite source of it.

2) It may be more environmental friendly compared to other sources of energy but it produces radioactive waste, which can be really harmful if not handled with extreme supervision.

3) It may be cost-effective when operational but the cost to build a nuclear power plant is so expensive.

4) Nuclear accident can happen. This is one of the reasons why many people are against having a nuclear power plant in their countries.

Step-by-step explanation

For me, the cons of having a nuclear energy source outweighs the pros. The cons, especially the nuclear accident, can have a long term effect in the region when it happens. It will be so destructive that a large portion of a country's area will be uninhabitable for many years to come.
