When I hear the word diversity, I visualize many different people all different races, backgrounds, religious beliefs, and cultures. It is hard to live anywhere in this world and not expect to see or experience diversity at some point. This has to do with some many people wanted to see what different places in the land of opportunity has to offer. I feel diversity is a good thing to experience because it allows you to get a glimpse of how other cultures live, you get to try their cuisine, and get knowledge of how they live as a society and community.
This can also be true when it comes to diversity in the workplace. There are so many different people from many different backgrounds that you can see within a corporation. This becomes very important when there are different teamwork options or teamwork assignments or projects that need to be done.
When I hear the word team, I feel that this is needed in the workforce. I believe that you cannot thrive within a company without having a strong team and the ability to work with others. You will have to come to the realization that you could be working with someone who has a different background and culture as you do. This is evident in just about all companies that are thriving today. Especially when you have different companies that have offices and locations all over the world, so you have to be open and accepting to diversity in the workplace. I look at it as if no one person has the knowledge of everything. There are times where you will need a perspective of a person who knows more than you about a certain topic. It also allows for different people the ability to put their heads together and come up with innovative ideas that can help the company thrive.
You also have to be very careful when you have a diverse populations working together because there can also be conflicts with everyone felling that their idea is the best or you have that individual or diverse group who believes that they are superior to the other diverse groups that they have to work with. You might have groups of people who refuse or don't particularly wish to work with certain groups of people. Which can cause a stall or pause in productivity with the company and make possible loss of revenue and no corporation wants to experience a loss on anything if all possible.
