The Individual with Disabilities Education Act, is a federal law enacted to provide comprehensive protection to students with various learning disabilities. The provisions under this Act include the right to free and fundamental education, the liberty to being placed in an environment which is not overly restrictive, as well as allowing for parent involvement. In a nutshell, the IDEA protects all school-aged pupils that lie within either one or more of the outlined conditions, such as emotional disturbance, autism, visual impairment, speech impairment, learning disabilities, among other medical/health related impairments.
