Professor Julia Parrish said that science is about exploration and discovery. It's about not knowing something, being curious about it, and then going out and trying to figure it out. During Professor Parrish's lecture she talked about the many different ways that she has and is conducting science in Marine biology to make real world impacts and to also establish genuine partnerships with local communities. Importance of Science in Marine Biology :

• As growing global population stresses the ability of our society to produce food, water, and shelter, we will continue to look to the oceans to help sustain our basic needs.
• Advances in technology, combined with demand, will improve our ability to derive food, drinking water, energy sources, waste disposal, and transportation from the ocean.
• It will be up to this and future generations to build upon our existing knowledge of the ocean and its potential to help meet the needs of the world and its inhabitants.

Marine Biology is essentially a subdiscipline of Marine Science. While Marine Biology covers mostly living organisms and where they are found in marine systems, it does not fully address the physical and chemical aspects of the oceans, such as currents, climate, wave action, tidal effects, etc. except in relation to how these things directly affect the biological organisms. Marine Science covers essentially everthing form marine biology, marine ecology, marine chemistry, marine geology, etc. Marine Science is a much more encompassing field and I would suggest a degree in Marine Science is more marketable than a degree in Marine Biology. I say this because I have degrees in both marine biology and marine ecology and I see way more job openings in marine science than I do in those two disciplines.

Marine biologists study the fascinating animal, plant and microscopic life in oceans. An estimated 80% of all life on earth is found under the ocean surface! Plants and animals act as indicators of the effect of human activities on the planet, including pollution and climate change. Marine biologists play a vital role in studying these effects.

Marine biologists study life in the oceans, and sometimes the oceans themselves. They may investigate the behavior and physiological processes of marine species, or the diseases and environmental conditions that affect them. They may also assess the impacts of human activities on marine life. So, genuine partnership with local communities is very important in Marine Biology
