What monomers make up polypeptide chains?

Polypeptide chains are made up of monomers called amino acids. There are twenty common amino acids that form peptides and proteins. Each amino acid has an amine group and a carboxylic acid group. The amino acids are joined together to form the polypeptide chains when the amine and carboxylic acid groups can react to form peptide bonds.
