The Environmental theory
This theory was developed by Florence Nightingale where she defined Nursing as the act of utilizing the environment of the patients to assist them in their recovery. This theory has a broad applicability to the practitioners,as it can be applied in many complex hospital care environment, the home, a work site or at the community at large. The Environmental theory covers four major concepts namely: Nursing, Human beings, Environment and Health.

To explain further, we look at the co-related concepts under the Nightingale's Environmental theory. These are Nursing and Environment.
The Nursing concept
This concept states that, what nursing has to do is to put the patients in the best condition for the environment/nature to act upon them. This concepts signifies the proper use of warth, cleanliness,fresh air and proper diet.
The Environment Concept
All that surrounds human beings has a impact on the state of health as reflected in a community health model. The concepts also entails five factors namely; pure fresh air, pure water, effective drainage, cleanliness and light. The deficiency of this factors produce illness or lack of health, but with nurturing environment, the body could repair itself.

Conclusion
This Environmental theory of Nursing is a patient care theory. In the 21st century, we are faced with serious environmental conditions. For instance, global warming,nuclear radiations, pollution. This theory seems to be very ideal in the modern environment.
