ETHICS AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY IN ITALY.
Provide three key recommendations to consider in regard to ethics and social responsibility in Italy (e.g., intellectual property, competition, corruption). Please include the reference.
The first recommendation would be, to have a legal system to protect intellectual property. This is property like trademarks, copyrights, patents and trade secrets. With the growing market and high competition of products in the markets, it has become impossible to depend on people's ethics to respect intellectual property. It is due to this reason that the government of Italy should put in legal policies of protecting intellectual property (Perrini et al., 2006).
Step-by-step explanation
In the market competition, people should be guided by three virtues which are virtue, justice and freedom. When companies get into a competition, it either becomes constructive competition or destructive competition. It is for this reason that the authority should come up with policies, rules and regulations which controls the motives and aims of a market competition. Some marketers will get into the competition with fellow companies with the aim of degrading the companies or tarnishing their brands for selfish reasons. Self-interest of companies leads to unhealthy market competitions (Giacalone, & Thompson, 2006).
When corruption is involved, all ethical virtues and social responsibilities are crossed. Every vise of social ethics is involved including; interfering with the justice system, bribery, abuse of power, embezzlement of public funds among others. Integrity is lacking in the system especially in the authority of the country. Recommendation for this would be to put in place rules and regulations that clearly give legal consequences of people involved in corrupt activities including the leaders. Systems of reviews should be put in place especially when it comes to the public funds. The public should also be encouraged to follow the protocols in the system to avoid bribery and acquiring services without following procedures (Coppa, & Sriramesh, 2013).
