Explain how the kidney and the respiratory system would act to maintain the normal pH of the body if you had been vomiting for 2 days. 

 

The kidneys would maintain the normal pH of the body by maintaining the acid-balance where by their cells reabsorb bicarbonate (HCO3) from the urine back into the blood and secrete hydrogen H⁺ . Through this process the amounts which are reabsorbed and secreted tend to balance the bloodstream's pH. The respiratory system will maintain the normal pH by contributing to the balance of acids and bases in the body through the process of regulating the blood levels of carbonic acid where the C0₂ carbon(iv) oxide tends to react with water forming carbonic acid hence the levels of the CO₂ and carbonic acid in the blood are in equilibrium and the normal pH of the body tends to be maintained.
