Loa to the Divine Narcissus is an allegorical play while Ovid's Metamorphoses is a narrative poem. From the first sentence of his Metamorphoses, Ovid made it clear that he was not writing a typical epic. He states very clearly that his purpose is to create something new, writing, "My mind carries me to speak of bodies changed into new forms".
