According to Alan Watts, mystical experiences are considered true. Watt suggested that mystical experiences are levels of consciousness which are comprehensive enough to be considered as real as falling in love. In his studies, Watts identified four main characteristics that he identified with the mystical experiences. First, he suggested that mystical experiences tend to slow down time. Mystical experiences make it possible for a person to become more aware of the moment than in future experiences. The second characteristic is that a person becomes more aware of polarity of things, states, and events. This means that a person realizes that there is an opposite to everything which makes them interdependent. This is closely related to the relativity characteristic. The idea that there is a polarity to everything shows that the ideas or events closely related. Hence, events, ideas and states are variations in one single theme. Lastly, there is an existence of an eternal energy in every person. The mysterious energy is the current that flows in our nerves and that exists in our own being. Understanding these characteristics starts with understanding the fact that religion is not the only source of mystical experiences. As such, human beings are just close to attaining mystical experiences just as the supreme beings in the various religions. This makes it difficult to accept these experiences as true, hence giving them the idea of vagueness.
