What are the differences between reactive and proactive policing?

-What is broken windows theory, and explain how it has affected policing.

• Should the theory be implemented nationwide?
• Has this policy has been implemented in San Francisco area and has it has been successful?
• If the policy has not been instituted, should it be?, and what are the best method to begin implementation?

 

Proactive policy refers to the process of responding to a problem and eliminating it before it happens while reactive means the same thing but after it has already happened. An example of proactive approach is when police do a search for individuals before entering a building. An example of reactive approach is when police do investigating after robbers have attacked innocent people.

broken windows theory is a criminology approach that states that a visible crime image will lead to further crime with examples being anti-social behavior, civil disorders. The theorist behind this, Wilson believes that this visible signs create room for more crime to thrive. Studies shows that this policy of broken windows has been cited widely however its use has not been applied as it should be. Many departments feel that the theory is not that valid and that crime has many causes and this is just not an ideal reason for crime. No intense crime has been associated with this theory (Ren, Zhao, & He, 2019). The I feel this theory should be implemented to assist in fighting crimes no matter the little impact it may have. broken windows theory was implemented in San Fran cisco but was not successful since it was considered uneconomical and waste of resources. Its impact was not worthwhile investing in based on scholars.
